Biking for Brain Research

Tax deductible
My Story

My name is Evan Dungate. In the spring of 2017 my Great Uncle Rick passed away. He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, as does my Grandmother now. My Uncle Rick could not recognize me for the last part of his life. On one of my last visits to him in the dementia unit at the senior care facility where he was living, he and I shared a moment where he had a glimpse of clarity, looked me in the eye and said “Something is very wrong with my brain.” In the next moment, he slipped back into the clutches of dementia.

That moment changed me as a person. I felt helpless. I was face to face with someone I loved deeply and the only thing I could do to help in that moment was just be present and loving with him. This brought me proximate to the reality that our brains are so powerful, they make us everything we are as individuals, and they are terribly fragile. I want to dedicate my ride to Rick and brain research so that I can begin to shed that feeling of helplessness and turn it into the idea that I can make a change.

Purpose of my ride

My purpose is to raise funds and awarerness about the multitude of neurological diseases that affect our loved ones and that there are also researchers who are getting closer and closer to finding solutions to these diseases. We all have brains, donating to brain research today will make a brighter and healthier future for all of us.

Donations

Your donations will be sent to the Brain Research Foundation which dedicates 100% of its funding to support neuroscience research that leads to an advanced understanding of brain function in children and adults. This Foundation is committed to advance discoveries that will lead to novel treatments and prevention of all neurological diseases. Any and all donations are welcome and much appreciated!

If you would like to get more involved please share my initiative on Facebook and tell your story in the post if one of your loved one has been affected by a neurological disease and follow my story on Facebook, Instagram, and my website
