Casey Kennedy to Sing at Carnegie Hall

Donation protected

10,000 high school students from around the world were nominated to audition (vocal, band, orchestra) and only 500 were selected to perform at Carnegie Hall on February 9th. This is an amazing honor.

Hello. My name is Casey Kennedy and I am a senior at Polaris School here in Fort Collins where I live. About a year and a half ago, I began taking voice lessons from Patrice Burgstahler who also lives in Fort Collins. Patrice has taught me how to control my breath while singing, how to pronounce and enunciate and in the last couple of months she has been teaching me music theory.

I've always loved to sing and my mother reminds me often that I used to sing on our family vacations in the car to the point of losing my voice when I was only two. Music is incredibly important to me.

This last September my voice instructor nominated me to sing with the 2014 Carnegie Hall High School Honor Series at Carnegie Hall. Patrice helped my mother and me fill out the paperwork that we had to send to Carnegie along with an audio audition. One of the things Patrice told me was to remember that even being nominated is a great honor and that I needed to remember that a lot of people from all over the world are sending in auditions. I know she was letting me know that I should be careful about getting my hopes up.

On this past October 31, which just so happens to be my birthday, I received an acceptance letter from Carnegie Hall to perform with 2014 Carnegie Hall High School Honor Series choir. I couldn't believe it. I felt ecstatic. Over 10,000 high school students from around the world were nominated and only 500 were selected. This is an amazing honor.

Carnegie Hall suggested in the acceptance letter that I do things to raise funds for my expenses. Requesting sponsorship is one of those things. So, I'm requesting sponsorships (donations) to help me get to Carnegie as neither me or my mother can afford the money to go.

The cost for my mother and me (my mom really wants to go see me perform at Carnegie) to participate in the 5 day event is approximately $5,000.00. Asking for financial help is kind of a hard thing to do, but I hope you will consider helping me in any way you can.
