Daniel Jackson exchange to France

Ever since my freshman year at Jones College Prep, I've always wanted to go to France to study. I hosted a French exchange student at my home last year and now I want the opportunity to visit France. I grew up and currently reside in Englewood, a community filled with crime and violence. Many of our community residents fear Englewood. There's not a lot of trust in Englewood and many do not have trust for each other. Englewood is also known as a neighborhood of low income. Living in Englewood has been very difficult for me and my family. Unfortunately money was and continues to be an issue that has delayed me from traveling and studying as an exchange student. I have worked very hard to prepare myself to travel to Europe.

I have worked as a volunteer with several organizations and I have obtained 800 service learning hours. I have earned a few state awards recognizing me as a Student Leader who works to help make the world a better place. I am particularly proud of the Youth Medal of Honor award I received from the Cook County Sheriff's Department. I serve on Student Government, French Club as Co- Organizer, Men's Acapella Chorus, and I'm a Choir member at my church and school. I also worked as an intern teacher, providing leadership for minority students from diverse communities in Chicago. I love serving communities and continue to believe there is little hope for those who reside in disadvantaged communities in Chicago.

My goal is to travel abroad to France as an exchange student with my classmates for 13 days. I would appreciate it if you would please help donate towards my trip. Over the past years I have raised $1200, working as an intern cook at the Hyatt Center Cafe. I need to raise $1,500 by January 20, 2014.
