Help Chloe May With Recovery!

Donazione protetta

In May 2013 we, the Neal family, found great joy when Chloe came home as a birthday present puppy for Justine. Chloe easily found a special place in our hearts and went everywhere with us. She loves car rides, road trips, and hikes with Justine, Kevin and Kevin’s childhood dog, Domino. In February 2017, while on the drive home from vacation in Texas, 12 hours away from home, she had her first seizure. We were in the middle of Arkansas with emergency vets 100 miles away, absolutely terrified of what was happening. We had never experienced a seizure before. In the following 24 hours, she had 2 additional seizures. 3 vet visits later we ended up at University of Illinois Veterinary teaching hospital in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. After bloodwork, MRI, and a spinal tap we found out the most devastating news that she had Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME). There were 2 types of this disease, the inflammatory type and the necrotizing (brain eating) type and the vet diagnosed her with necrotizing. She was given 2 months to live. Following the vets advice, we put her on chemotherapy and heavy doses of steroids to battle the disease and over the course of 4 months she started to act more like herself. We gave Chloe a follow up MRI and spinal tap and the vet said Chloe was in remission!!!However, this past February 24, 2018, she had her first seizure in a year. We were worried that something might be wrong again. We discussed with our vet what our options were and the vet said to monitor her and if she has another one to take her to the emergency vet. Today on March 10, 2018, at 3:17pm she went into a long cluster of seizures that would not stop until we got her to an emergency vet hospital at 3:40pm. At the emergency vet, after the initial seizure she continued to have seizures while we tried to get the paperwork together. She hasn’t regained consciousness since between her seizures around 3:25. Chloe is hospitalized in the ICU for the weekend under heavy sedation, seizure medication, and oxygen. They were still trying to get her seizures under control when we had to leave. They said that she aspirated a bit and is developing pneumonia which only complicates her situation. In order to treat the encephalitis, they have to suppress her immune system. However, this makes it harder to fight off the pneumonia. They are doing everything they can to make her comfortable and reverse the disease but the next few hours are critical. We are devastated and are asking for help for the first time in our lives. We are still paying on the vet bills from last year. With the meds and vet visits, we are doing everything we can to help this special little girl who we thought we would have another 5-7 more years with. Just to get her stable, the hospital estimate was more than $3500, and if we need to go further and do the neurology, MRI and spinal tap it is upwards of $7500. Please help, every dollar helps! Thank you for your support!!
