I am the wife of Dan Mitteer and the daughter-in-law of Terry Mitteer. As many of you know, Terry Mitteer, lovely mother to Mike, Michelle, Dan, Taren, and Nikki, has been fighting a heroic battle with cancer for the past 2.5 years. Doctors initially gave only 6 months, but Terry fought hard and surprised her entire medical team. Unfortunately it is with a heavy heart we report that after all of her bravery and fighting, Terry was moved into Hospice care this past weekend. As you can imagine, it has been a long, hard road for Terry and her children. We take solice in knowing her pain continues to be managed by the wonderful, caring Hospice team in Florida, where the focus continues to be on her comfort. However, Terry is still in Florida, thousands of miles away from her family. In addition to keeping her comfortable, our new goal is to get Terry safely back to Virginia so that she can be surrounded by all the people who love her most, including her sweet grandchildren. We are confident that if we can get her home, we can provide the kind of love and support she needs during this frightening time. Unfortunately, costs associated with a safe transition back home are very high (e.g., doctors recommend med-flight back to Virginia given her serious condition). The family is pulling together as many resources as possible to make this happen. Many of you have asked what you can do to help, so we are reaching out now to friends and family for any help and support you can provide.
