Meet Jewel, a 64 year old mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and nurse for more than 35 years.
Jewel has dedicated her life to serving others. She raised two children as a single mother while caring for her own mother, worked full-time, and went to school-full time. She is not a stranger to hard times and struggle.
Through it all Jewel has remained strong in her faith. In addition, whether working as a nurse or in her personal life Jewel continues to pour out love and kindness and continues to put the needs of other people first. It’s in her nature. Her name fits her well... she is a true jewel.
On February 22, 2018 Jewel was diagnosed with Stage 1 - Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma, Breast Cancer. Please pray for complete healing. Having caught this early on, the doctors are hopeful she can make a full recovery. We are hopeful and have faith as well that she will be completely healed.
While we are optimistic and believe Jewel will make a full recovery, this will take a toll on Jewel and her family financially. Jewel will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time. Aside from medical expenses, Jewel has her mortgage and basic living expenses. Out of pocket medical expenses first week alone, before beginning treatment, are over $5k.
It is our hope to help alleviate the stresses of this extra financial hardship. We want her to focus solely on her health and not worry about how she will meet these financial obligations.We have no idea how much treatment will cost. Even with insurance, the medical expenses are already adding up.
