Help Liz Kick Cancer To The Curb

Donation protected
My name is Liz Wilson Greer and I’ve been battling cancer for the last eight years. I’m now on my 4th round of dealing with this stupid cancer and my second time with Stage 4 cancer—AND I’M READY TO KICK IT TO THE CURB FOR GOOD!! I have a rare form of soft tissue sarcoma called solitary fibrous tumors. This time they’re in my liver. Up until now I’ve been able to have three major surgery and radiation to remove the tumors (plus a bunch of smaller surgeries due to complications from the cancer treatments). I’ve been going to Mass General in Boston for a few years now (before that I was going to Johns Hopkins for my oncology). Because the type of cancer I have is so rare, they’re are only a handful of doctors in the U.S. who specialize in it—and even they have very little experience with it. My oncologist in Boston has only had 8 patients with solitary fibrous tumors in his whole career! There’s only about 100 people in the United States that have this type of cancer, so consequently there’s not a lot of research being done for it either. I want to find a cure for this cancer for me and the other folks that are also suffering with this cancer. I’m 48 years and I still have a lot of life left to live. I’m pursuing my bucket list and studying music part-time at Westfield State University in between surgeries, treatments, and recovery time. It’s been a life-long dream of mine to be a musician and I refuse to give up. I’ve also dreamed of having kids and was unable to due to the cancer. My husband and I have been approved to adopt children through the state, but that’s on hold once again while I go through another round fighting this cancer. I’ve barely recovered from open abdominal surgery to remove a tumor at the end of October 2017 when my scans showed more tumors in my liver. I then had to drop out of school for this semester to deal with the cancer once again. Since my cancer came back in early 2014, I have been unable to work. My husband works two jobs just so that I can afford to go to school, get acupuncture that’s not covered by my insurance, and be able to afford my medical expenses. I am traveling from Massachusetts to Houston, Texas to go to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. I am on a quest to find a cure for this cancer. I may even need to go to Europe to find treatments that are not available in the U.S. I would be so grateful for any help that you could give me. I plan to write about my experiences in word and in song. I want to be a light of hope for others who are suffering from Solitary Fibrous Tumors. My story and theirs are not finished yet. THANK YOU!
