Australia Study Abroad Program

Donation protected
Hello!

I am Travise Kinney, a current 5th year student through the Emory/Georgia Tech dual degree program.  I completed three and a half years at Emory to receive a B.S. in Biology (premed) and am currently completing the final stage in the dual program for a Mechanical Engineering degree.  For the first time in my academic career, I have the opportunity to study abroad.  Previously, while at Emory I did not have the opportunity because of the heavy course load and the pre-requisites to get into GA Tech were intense. This would have been the optimal time to go because financial aid was very helpful while at Emory.  Now that I have transferred, I receive much less financial aid and debt has increased drastically because of my credit hours.  Thankfully, I have received a $5,000 scholarship (George International Study Abroad Scholarship) to help pay for my study abroad experience. On the Georgia Tech site, the Australia program is estimated to cost $19,599.  With financial aid and the scholarship, I hope to have $10,000 left to cover.  I also will be working an internship with GE Healthcare this summer to help pay the difference for what I do not have.

The study abroad experience will enhance my Georgia Tech Degree by allowing me to understand mechanical engineering from another university. The experience of diversifying my comprehension of knowledge at various schools will provide me with a sense of versatility and adaptability. With UNSW being an exchange program, I will also not be taught by Georgia Tech’s faculty. This allows me to incorporate a multi-faceted cultural learning experience into my Georgia Tech Degree. I will be able to learn about my degree from various perspectives of native Australian professors, as well as study with students across the world within the same major. This will be an amazing experience where I will embrace a culture shock to learn more about myself, my passions, and the world around me. I also understand that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I do not want to miss. I thank everyone for any possible donations towards my goal and one day I hope I am in a position to do the same for others!
