For my Hero-Lets beat this Villian!

It took me forever to find my best friend, my husband..... My Hero... and I am doing everything in my power to help the doctors heal his hero body! In 2004 my Hero, my husband Dennis was diagnosed with Stage 4 Head and Neck cancer with the base of his tongue as the primary tumor. Over the next year he would go through surgery to remove the tumor at the base of his tongue in order to save his life. He then would have chemo and radiation therapy to destroy any remaining cancer cells, which may have spread to other parts of his body. During this horribly tramatic part of our lives, Dennis would win his battle for life but he would eventually lose his ability to eat, drink and talk the way you and I do. This is all taken for granted but definitelt realized when taken away. But, that's very little to give up in order to live the life he loves so much. Think about yourself..... Could you live and be happy knowing you can never again eat that Mexican platter or drink that beer you love so much, just to stay alive? My hero loved me so much that he gave up the food and drink he loved to stay alive and be with me. Instead, he lives on Vanilla Boost and any liquid that will drain by gravity through a tube permanently placed inside his stomach wall. Please know... We are not looking for sympathy or pity... We are way past that, all we want is to live out our lives loving each other.... Loving our 4 year old grandson... Loving our family... Living! Guess what? The doctors healed my Hero and today we live our lives loving each other, playing and loving our Grandson, loving our family. That was about 14 years ago. Now its Christmas 2017 and my Hero Dennis and I are enjoying the holiday. He has a follow up Dr. appointment after the holidays to review a questionable MRI. We were told by an ER that some neck pain that he had been having was actually bone cancer. Omg... We also learned from past experience to not get worked up until there was something to actually get worked up over but.... This time it was different. 2018, as I write this, Dennis is in the hospital. He has finished 2 cycles of chemo and it has caused all of his blood counts to bottom out. He has also developed pneumonia and became extremely short of breath. He basically has no immune system and is at risk at catching any infection. The Drs. are giving him special injections in an attempt to bring up the counts. It has been touch and go. Nausea, vomiting, coughing all rolled up together. He is extremely weak and has not been able to get the nutrition needed due to the nausea. He was diagnosed with MDS instead of bone cancer. Google it.....basically it is Leukemia. This event was a manifestation of the chemo he received for the Head and Neck cancer from 2004. Isn't it ironic... Years later the cure became the cause. Currently, he is waiting and preparing for a Stem Cell Transplant for the cure. We are hoping in April that it may take place. Omg.... It scares me so to even think about it given the current events that was caused from the 2 cycles of chemo that he just finished in preparation for the transplant. The transplant will be 4 to 6 weeks in the hospital. One week of high dose chemo to wipe away his blood counts in preparation for the new Stem cells. Lots of medication, blood transfusion, and all the nausea, vomiting, weakness you can imagine. I guess we are experiencing it now. Just a small dose of what is yet to come. Please open your hearts and say a prayer for my hero and maybe a small one for me too. I sit here in the hospital writing this and have only written a small part of what's happening to my SuperHero but I don't want to take up more of your time. If you feel compelled to help us, please do so. Prayers do get answered. I will continue to update our journey to the cure. God Bless you and thank you for taking the time reading about my Hero and the villian we are fighting. We MUST beat this and will do anything to knock down this nasty disease. ❤️ Love and Health to you all!!
