Donation protected
Caden is 13 yrs old & in 7th grade. Caden was diagnosed with an incurable disease, Duchenne muscular Dystrophy at the age of 6. He stopped walking at the age of 8 and in a wheelchair full time. Due to the disease and having to be in a wheelchair, his back is curving significantly & is in continues pain. It's called Scoliosis & he is scheduled for a major surgery January 2014 for a spinal fusion to try to correct the severe curvature if his spine. Caden was newly diagnosed with severe sleep apnea & stops breathing while he is asleep. Caden sees many different doctors on a regular basis for continued and ongoing care. Caden can't play like other kids, but he has a passion & a love for Legos. He builds sets & makes the most magnificent creations. He loves playing video games & loves Minecraft. He is a sweet, easygoing kid. He loves to joke around and is always keeping us laughing. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a muscle wasting disease which results in progressive muscle deterioration and takes over all muscles including the heart. It's a fatal disease and results in death in the early teens to mid-twenties. Caden is dependent on his parents for his everyday needs. He needs help with bathrooming, showering, transferring, eating, changing, etc... Someone needs to be around him 24/7 to include when he is sleeping. He can't turn himself over throughout the night. So on a good night he only asks to be turned over around 5-6 times. He sleeps with many pillows & can take several minutes to get him comfortable to go back to sleep. This disease has taken a toll on their family financially, mentally, & physically. While transferring Caden his mother has 2 herniated disks & already had one surgery for her back. Due to the needs of their son his mother stays home to take care of him. His father has a full time job & everyday they are struggling to make ends meet. Most recently they family had to purchase a new specialized wheelchair for Caden, it cost $21,000. Thankfully insurance picked up most of the bill, but it left the family with $5,000 still due. They have had to sell furniture, pick up extra jobs, anything to earn money. Please help this wonderful family and make their lives just a little bit easier.
