February 14th, 2018 My brother Jorge Zaragoza, 22yrs old, suffered a tragic accident at work. When he was on the way up on the ladder in an approximately 2 and 1/2 story building. The ladder broke into 2 pieces. As he fell, construction equipment fell on top of him. The pressure of the fall and material pierced his heart. He was rushed into the ER and he needed an open heart surgery. The doctors explained that the main arteries collapsed. His lungs collapsed and his heart stopped functioning during surgery. They lost his heartbeat 4 times in the operating room. His life wasn’t guaranteed, not through the surgery not through the next night. He had tubes connected to his heart after surgery to help him pump blood because his heart couldn’t do it on its own. At this point he was on life support. He lost more than half of the blood in his body and needed a lot of blood transfusion. Which then led to kidney failure and dialysis. Jorge put up a strong fight. Afterwards he was surrounded by friends and family. We saw him move his arm and he was responding positively to a brain test. We believed he waited for everyone to get together for him to say his last goodbye. He moved his arm several times and blinked making us think he was getting better. Today in the morning, two days later still fighting for his life on Friday February 16, 2018 we received horrible news. Jorge’s prognosis began to worsen and he wasn’t responding, so at 3pm they did a final CT scan to see what his diagnosis would be. Jorge wasn’t getting enough oxygen to his brain. His brain swelled up. At 4:47pm he was pronounced brain dead.He didn’t deserve this. Jorge was always a great man. Love by many. Losing him at such a young age has affected all his family but specially his mother. Her birthday is February 17th. We love him so much. He’s going to be missed by so many people! This was a very sudden tragedy for us. Unfortunately we need as much financial help as we can get.. anything will help us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you.
