Alyssa’s College Fund

My name is Alyssa Jonkins, and I graduated from Dunbar High School in June 2017 and enrolled at Morgan State University starting in August 2017. So far, Morgan State has provided experiences that have allowed me to develop as a woman and future professional, and I am beyond grateful for the time I have spent here thus far. Shortly after moving to school, my grandmother and primary caretaker passed away unexpectedly. My grandmother was determined to fund my schooling and see her first of 21 grandchildren graduate from college. Since her death, I have struggled financially as I await placement in the work study program at Morgan State and can sadly no longer rely on the funding provided by my grandmother. However, I am determined to honor her legacy by obtaining my degree.

For the Spring 2018 semester, I initially owed $14,174.50. Through a loan and a small payment I was able to provide on my own, the balance on my account is now $11,010. After discussing my options with the financial aid office, they have made an exception based on my situation to allow me to pay $3,300 by February 20 and fund the rest of my balance next semester with loans and other scholarships I am able to obtain. My classes have been dropped for the semester, and I can only be re-enrolled if I can contribute this $3,300 to my account by February 20.
