In 2006, Destiny experienced severe abdominal pain while on a mission trip to Thailand. She underwent an appendectomy and though there was a small cyst found on her appendix she was assured all was well. Flash forward to 2009, THREE YEARS LATER, she notices significant abdominal swelling, so much that it prompts strangers to ask when the baby is due. There was no baby. Prompted by these findings she goes to the doctor, which led to many tests, and many appointments. Final diagnosis Pseudomyxoma Peritonei—an extremely rare cancer that began in her appendix. Had it been treated in 2006, the likelyhood of a cure was incredibly high. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. Her surgeon in North Carolina can only offer her debulking surgeries for comfort when the tumors get to large for her to function.
She is about to undergo her 4th major surgery this month and will be out of work for several weeks. Destiny is a CVICU nurse whose passion for patient care, education, and advocacy is apparent from the moment you meet her. Time for us to give back to someone who has given her life to serving others. Please join me in helping to ease some of her financial burden during this stressful time.
