Rachel’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and all who stumble in on this:
Many of you may be aware that my wife Rachel has been suffering from uterine fibroid tumors for several years. These are benign yet painful tumors due to their location that can cause anywhere from a feeling of immense pressure to extreme pain and heavy bleeding. Rachel underwent surgery about a year ago to remove them and alleviate the problem. Doctors were able to extract several massive tumors from the outside of her uterus.

While things seemed to initially improve, ultimately the surgery was not successful, as there were many internal tumors that could not be removed. She began to become anemic and the pain continued to near-unmanageable levels, which resulted in Rachel’s current near-disabled state and facing the decision of a hysterectomy.

This disability is a problem on many levels, least of which is that she’s unable to work. As you may (or may not) know, Rachel is an extremely talented professional make-up artist. And while her talent has allowed her a number of incredible opportunities, the fact of the matter is that this is not a job that gives a salaried income nor provide insurance. She works on a contractual/freelance basis, and her current condition makes it near impossible for her to pursue these jobs.

Fortunately, Rachel served in the US Navy and is afforded insurance through the VA, so some of the costs are covered through this. However, by an odd lack of foresight and archaic wording, the insurance WILL NOT cover a vast majority what Rachel actually needs. This has resulted in her having to seek out private care, which is not a trivial cost.

To be very blunt, the cost of the office visits and surgeries is causing us a serious financial burden. And while we’re both proud independent people, we’ve come to terms with the fact that we could use some help.

We could talk about ‘fighting the system’ or complain about the situation, but this is not productive. We’ve decided to put our energy into the things we feel we can affect, which is why you’re reading this now.

We’re hoping through your help and kindness, we can alleviate some of the stress of worrying HOW we’re going to get Rachel better…and focus on getting her better. Our goal is to get Rachel through this and back up on her feet so she can continue her life of being a positive, proud friend, wife, and contributor.

Know that anything over the goal we’ll donate directly to another female veteran in need or to a non-profit that focuses on helping female veterans.

Thank you for your time and your help!
