Brenda’s Battle

For most of you, this may be surprising news, but our amazingly selfless and loving mom, Brenda Oberweis, has been diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. We all know that cancer sucks and unfortunately it has metastasized to her lungs and lymph nodes. Cancer treatment is so very expensive, and she has been forced into retirement at age 68 because this first round of chemo has stolen almost all energy from her.
Brenda is on Medicare, and all she receives per month is her below average social security payment and a very tiny pension from one of the jobs she held over her 50 years of work since high school. Unfortunately, after 30 years of marriage that ended in 2004, she was cheated out of receiving half of his pension like she should have been entitled to.
We don’t understand why or how, but she has recently been denied Medicaid. We’re trying to fix this, but currently, her medications are over $1,000 a month out of pocket. With a meager savings that won’t last more than a couple of months at this rate, her monthly income covers her housing and utilities.
We are graciously asking for help, in any amount that you can spare, to help our wonderful mom through the most difficult thing she has ever and will ever have to go through. Any money that is donated will go to paying for food, medications, co-pays, and transportation.
