Brown County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lance T. Catalano
Lance died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Lance’s death was a shock to all of us who worked with him in the Brown County area. Lance always treated everyone with respect and greeted them with a smile. Lance was a strong supporter of, and friend to, all his fellow law enforcement officers. He understood all too well of the stresses and pressures they and their families face. Lance’s death probably had the biggest impact on the law enforcement community in the Brown County area in the last several years.
We are asking for donations in Lance Catalano’s name, to help fund a local group of police spouses called Shielded Hearts who have come together to provide hope, education, friendship, and support to each other. Officer’s families are really the only ones who see the stress their officer endures every day. The families not only listen as their officer describes the horror and evil they see all too often, but they deal with the unpredictable work schedule and fear of their officer being injured or killed every day. Officers lean heavily on their families, but the families don’t always have someone they can lean on.
Shielded Hearts
Is a non-profit organization that has been formed by family members of local officers. It has been active and has already helped several local departments during times of crisis, including the Brown County Sheriff’s Department after Lance’s death.
With the permission of the Sheriff, and the blessings of Lance’s family, an unnamed Green Bay Police Officer will be dedicating a 50 mile run in Lance’s name in hopes of raising awareness and funding to further establish and grow this organization in his name. On October 25th, The Fall 50 road race will be run in Door County. The race starts at Gills Rock and ends in Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay. This is the USTAF National Championship. This is a solo runner event and the Officer must complete the 50 miles by himself in less than 11 hours to receive an official end time.
After the first 45.3 miles, at the start of the final leg of the run, the Officer has received permission to wear Sgt. Lance Catalano’s personal uniform to honor his service and help fund this terrific cause.
