137km Ultramarathon for Mental Health

September 11th, 2021 marks the day that I set foot on a 52.5km ultramarathon in Victoria, BC to raise awareness and $50,000 for Mental Health.

My name is Lucas Cullen and I am the 22 year-old founder and creator of a mental health platform and podcast called 'Struggle Creates Strength'. 'Struggle Creates Strength' exemplifies that EVERYONE has a story and any struggle we encounter has the potential to create strength within ourselves. I did not anticipate that I would ever run 50km through the mountains and I also didn't anticipate that I would be alive and smiling today; but here we are.

I have chosen to run 50km to prove the potential that you have if you are battling any form of mental health struggle right now and feel like it will never get better. I am living proof that our struggles don't define us, but they actually make us stronger. Depression, anxiety, suicidal ideations, and suicidal attempts live in my past and drive my future.

I am raising the $50,000 to donate to Kids Help Phone and Canadian Mental Health Association. I really believe in both of these organizations and their devotion to helping those who are struggling. I know that this donation could go a long ways and hopefully provide others with the same help I received.
