Help Freya Get a SMART Brailler

Freya is 8-years-old, in the 2nd Grade, and she happens to be totally blind! Freya is in mainstream school and LOVES to write. Her writing is done on a Braille writer. So far, she has always had to borrow Braille machines from school and the local School for the Blind. A Braille writer can be compared to a pencil and paper for sighted kids. With the exception of the fact that braille writers cost thousands of dollars. Her current machine that she borrows is worth almost $5,000. Freya does not get to keep these borrowed items. Freya’s dad is in the Air Force, so our family will soon have to pack up and move somewhere new. This means giving her brailler back and spending time off during the summer with no way to braille. Every kid deserves to write whenever they want to. Freya even has dreams of being an author. We would love to be able to purchase Freya a brailler that will be all her own. That’s why we are asking for your help. The Perkins SMART Brailler costs just over $2,100, so we are asking for $2,300 to cover shipping and to purchase the special paper that goes along with it.
