5015 Explosion, Help Brooks Family BBQ Rebuild

KPRC Interview with Marlon Brooks

Marlon Brooks got his start in his parents family business, Harlon’s Barbeque, which began in 1977 and grew at it's height to 21 food service operations throughout Texas including the Houston Rodeo which his parents have participated in for over 30 years. Brooks Family BBQ opened independently in 2008.

As COVID-19 began to shut down business operations throughout the city, Brooks Family BBQ lost their primary contracts with Levy Restaurant Group at George R. Brown Convention Center and Aramark through NRG. As did most local businesses, they had to get creative to survive. Between catering and setting up their food truck/trailer at various pop up locations, they finally found a stable place in the community at Bar 5015 on Almeda.

On the morning of June 12th at about 4:40 am Brooks Family BBQ sustained a significant blow to an already struggling small business operation as a large explosion rendered their primary source of income, their food truck/trailer inoperable.

Friends and family in the community have joined together to start a Go Fund Me account for the struggling business to help recover and rebuild.
