Children in Columbia, South Carolina's inner city face obstacles every day: broken homes, crime, violence, drugs, failing public schools, and a lack of appropriate role models. These issues impact their ability to perform well in school, their social skills and their moral development, giving many of these children little opportunity for a positive future.
Jubilee Academy offers these children an opportunity to succeed in school and in life. Understanding that generational poverty makes it extremely difficult for these children, Jubilee's goal is to provide a supportive and nurturing educational environment that extends beyond the classroom, giving parents the support and skills they need to help their children be successful in school and beyond. From its Montessori-based classroom instruction to its parent programs to its after-school and summer programs, Jubilee makes real differences in both the children's and caregivers' lives.
As a small, non-profit private school, Jubilee receives no state funding and exists entirely on donations from the community. Because of the nature of the programming at Jubilee, which includes many extra-curricular offerings for children that their parents wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, education at Jubilee is a costly one. A child's modest tuition--used as more of a way to encourage parental engagement rather than to offset expenses--covers less than 10% of the actual cost of their education at Jubilee.
