Hi and thanks for taking the time to learn about our mom's situation. My name is Jeanette Moore and on behalf of my siblings I have created this page to help raise money for our mother's medical expenses. Jackie, our mother, has endured a disease that basically causes her kidneys to poison her body for 10 years now. She is a wonderful mother and grandmother and after more than a decade of being sick "“ in body only, she's been in great spirits - we can finally make her healthy!
Jackie lives in Queen City, Texas and to our relief in September 2013 she was approved for active status on the transplant list. Shortly after learning this news a bomb was dropped on us. We learned that our mother may not actually receive a life-saving kidney because of the financial strain it would cause. It seems weird, we know, but the transplant committee looks into whether or not a recipient can afford the post-transplant costs. Our parents were reduced to a single-income family in October 2011. Currently, with winter fast approaching and our youngest sister still living at home, our parents can't afford to keep the gas on; I'm sure you can imagine how tough extra medical bills will be. Our mother maintains her full-time job; but, that income is quickly depleted by normal living expenses (food, transportation to and from work, etc.). It also disqualifies her for additional government and private agency aid. We need your help in order to make sure that when a kidney is available for our mother she can afford it and will be made healthy and whole. Thanks in advance for your support!
More About our Mother
Jackie's battle started in January 2000, the same year our youngest sister, we like to call her "June Bug," was born. Three years later, in 2003, our mother was officially diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease Kidney Failure. She didn't tell us. At that point her kidneys were barely functioning and she started dialysis. A year later we found out both of our mother's kidneys completely failed. She didn't let that stop her. She chose to administer her own dialysis treatments at home while she slept so that she could keep her community commitments and provide June Bug with a well-rounded childhood. In 2012, 9 years of in-home dialysis treatments had taken a toll on our mother's body and she was forced to begin treatments in a dialysis center where they can very carefully monitor her. Still, this hasn't stopped Jackie. Just this summer she was helping to create parade floats!
Our mother has been sick and sometimes near death all of June Bug's life; however, she has made and continues to make sure that our youngest sister gains meaningful experiences through Girl Scouts, little league softball and basketball, now UIL volleyball, basketball, and band. Jackie is always there, sometimes as her coach, sometimes as her Troop Leader, and always as her cheerleader. Additionally, Jackie is a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she serves as Church Secretary/Treasurer, Youth Church School Leader, and sings in the choir. She is also secretary on the Queen City ISD School Board where she has served since 1999. Our mother has been a Girl Scout for 37 years and currently serves as the Service Unit Director, covering five neighboring cities and as a Troop Leader for 8th graders. She does all of this as a volunteer.
In 2008, after 5 years of dialysis, our mother was removed from the transplant list managed by Willis-Knighton Transplant Center in Shreveport, LA, the closest center to her home, because of chronic heart problems. Her heart was treated with stents and triple bypass surgery in 2008. In 2009 she was approved by the Dallas Methodist Transplant Center but placed on hold status until her heart proved strong enough. In September 2013 after clearance from the cardiologist for surgery she was shifted to active. This means she can receive the call any day.
Receiving the call means adding to the $12,992.54 she currently has in unpaid medical bills. This number continues to increase as she has mandatory and frequent doctor office visits and dialysis treatments. It also means having to stay in Dallas, Texas, 175 miles away from her home and her youngest daughter, for 6-8 weeks following her transplant and resulting in at least two-months' worth of lost income.
My siblings and I will continue to share our mother's story until we raise $25,000.00 and make sure "lack of funds" isn't the reason our mother isn't made healthy & whole.
