Help Julie Fight Cancer

Donation protected
She is courageous. She is tenacious. She is brave. She is stubborn. She is beautiful. She is my best girl.

Summer 2017 Julie Battles was in a minor car accident that left her with quite a large amount of back and rib pain. Her doctor ordered X-rays and an MRI and it was discovered that she had a burst compression fracture on her lower lumbar, and was immediately put on very restricted movement, limiting her ability to work at her thriving Real Estate career.

After several months of increasing pain in both location and intensity her doctor decided to order additional testing, she had also discovered a small lump in her left breast that they wanted to look closer at. So on December 13, 2017 Julie went to have some seemingly routine testing done and a mammogram and biopsy were ordered on the lump she had found in her breast. They were thinking it was simply a blocked milk duct left over from nursing her (now) 11 month old son, but wanted to be sure. The ‘simple’ testing turned in to anything but, when she found herself sitting with her husband in front of an oncologist hearing those dreaded words:

“You have Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer...”.

This means it has spread to her bones. Julie was diagnosed with a form of cancer that affects women who have recently been pregnant/given birth. Commonly referred to as ‘Postpartum Breast Cancer’, it is a quick moving, very aggressive form where the tumors are thought to be spurred on by the increase of hormones in a women’s body after child birth and during breast feeding. It comes with many symptoms that can be explained away as having other causes—hence her thinking the lump she found was a blocked milk duct.

The fight ahead of her will be long and hard. However to know Julie is to know that she is stubborn enough to not let something like this take her down! Julie and her husband Art have two young children, Ali age 5 and Mags age 11 months. Although she will be able to work off and on through this treatment process in her Real Estate business, the majority of their income now rests on Arts very capable shoulders. There will be unexpected expenses, there will be months where Julie won’t be able to work as much. This is why I am setting up this fund—so that they only need to focus on winning this battle, not covering unanticipated expenses. #BATTLESSTRONG
