Lori A. Borden (Matthews) passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Thursday September 21st, 2017. After previously surviving cancer twice, dozens of surgery and much illness. Lori leaves behind 3 beautiful young children. Cody, her oldest (24 yrs) is set to get married in a couple months (Mariah). Samantha (22 yrs) and husband Nicholas are expecting the arrival of a beautiful baby girl in January. Matthew (17 yrs) is starting his first year of college. Parents Tom and Connie Matthews of Claryville, NY. Brother Thomas Mattews, Sister Bridget Hurwitz and Sister in Law Katrina Matthews. She also has 6 beautiful nieces and nephews - Adam, Meagan, Shaina, Brittany, Jenna and Trey. She was also excited to recieve her first Grandchild in January.

Lori entered the hospital on Monday with chest pains. They eventually found that her heart had a bacterial growth, she was put on antibiotics instantly. Heartbreakingly, her infection traveled to her brain. She was always a fighter, we know she fought as hard as she could.
That night surrounded by family Lori took her last peaceful breath.

Her death was sudden and extremely unexpected.

The family is asking for assistance in paying for funeral and memorial services, medical bills, transportation cost, household bills and estate charges.

Belfast --- Lori Borden of 6132 Van Allen Road died Thursday, September 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with illness in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania. She was born on November 26, 1970 in Liberty, a daughter of Tom and Connie Van Wagner Matthews.

 

Lori was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School and graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in psychology. She was a current employee of Allegany County Department of Social Services serving in the Child Protective Services department.

 

She was full of life, loved watching her children play sports, cooking and most of all loved her family and friends.

 

Surviving in addition to her parents are her children, Cody (Mariah Abel) Borden of Croghan, Samantha (Nick) Stenzel of Fillmore, Matthew Borden of Belfast and was expecting a grandchild, a sister, Bridget Hurwitz of Claryville, Thomas (Katrina) Matthews of Virginia and six nieces and nephews, Adam, Meagan, Shaina, Brittany, Jenna and Trey.

 

Family and friends may gather from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore and from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in South Woodbourne where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Claryville Reformed Church Cemetery, Claryville.
