Mazzoni Center Emergency Needs Fund

Tax deductible
Hello, my name is Kevin Aldridge. I am working in collaboration with my dear friend, Jack Cooper, to present  the 4th Annual Mettathon fundraiser, benefitting Mazzoni Center's Care Services Department Emergency Needs Fund (for those not familiar with the Mazzoni Center and the work it has done for the LGBTQ community for neary 40 years, learn more about it: https://www.mazzonicenter.org/.)

Every year, the Care Services Department serves approximately 1,500 people living with HIV/AIDS - most of whom live in households which fall well below the federal poverty guidelines, as well as providing invaluable support and a range of services to about 2,000 trans and gender non-conforming folks. The Department makes medical care available (at a weekly drop-in clinic) to nearly 600 young people (ages 14-24) - the majority of whom have less than a 12th grade education, are unstably housed, are below 100% of federal poverty level, are racial or ethnic minorities, and identify as trans/gender non-conforming, lesbian, bi-sexual, gay, or queer/questioning (LGBTQ.)

Due to massive cuts in federal grant money that provides non-profit organizations with the vital resources they need to serve the most vulnerable members of the communities they work with, the Care Services Department must dig deeper into its Emergency Fund in the coming years than it has had to in years past, in order to supply clients with items such as hygiene kits, warm coats/hats/gloves for the winter, school supplies and holiday gifts/toys for the children of people living with HIV/AIDS. The goal of the Mettathon Fundraiser is to raise $5,000.00 to help absorb these costs!

Now you’re asking :“What is the 4th Annual Mettathon Fundraiser?”

On Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, from 8:30 am -1:30 pm, at A-Space (47th St. & Baltimore Ave., West Philly), Jack will sit on his cushion for 5 hours, without getting up, and practice Loving-Kindness (Metta) for all beings - with the phrase: "In Gladness and Safety, May All Beings Live With Ease." Please support his practice, and the practice of those (myself included!) who will be sitting with him for all or a portion of the sit, by donating any amount you can afford (if 10 people share the link w/ 50 friends, that’s 500 people, and if 500 people donate 10 bucks, we’ve met our goal – it’s that easy!)
