2018 Oxford Study Abroad Program

My name is Christian Cody, and I am now entering my third year of college. I entered college with the goal of learning how to better understand and help heal people after spending a year and a half training at the Vietnamese, Zen, Buddhist monastery in Escondido, CA, Deer Park. While there, I learned to take the unfortunate experiences of my life and use them to relate to people currently stuck on the midst of suffering, from there, communication came natural once they realized I was talking to them on their level. While in school I have found a passion in photography, and my passion for writing has continued to be watered by the wonderful professors at Pasadena City College. Now I have the opportunity to leave my home country for only the second time in my life and travel to Oxford and study English there for the entire spring semester of 2018. Being the spring semester, I would also spend spring break there, allowing further opportunity for travel. I hope to do this to expand my perspective and develop more culture, hoping to see the world outside the United States to help develop a better understanding of it. I will be writing, passionately while there, and would like to land the blogging scholarship as well. This GoFundMe will help me in saving up the money for the trip that financial aid will not cover, things that would be included in this cost would be travel expenses (flight, food, lodging) further travel expenses once over seas, as well as anything extra above my goal will go towards making sure I have adequate documenting equipment to show and share my experience with you all.
