Cancer Can’t Break The Mastyks

My name is Blake Mastyk. My family moved to Queen Creek, Arizona in 2006 to follow our dreams and open our own restaurant. We didn’t know the area or anybody, but when we visited it looked like a great place to start a family and business. Our son, Miles, was born and we opened our restaurant The Deli in 2007. Over the last decade we have come to know and befriend many people and families in and around our community. Through The deli, which is now closed, and The Bistro which is our current restaurant, we have been fortunate enough to have a small impact in many people’s lives. Being a part of many birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, weddings, births, and other celebrations, we like to joke that almost all of Queen Creek is part of our extended family. Nicole, my wife, was the driving force behind all of this. She makes all the menus, sets up all the events, pairs all the wines, cooks, cleans, she is and always will be the smartest, loving, caring person I know.

Then came Wednesday November 29 2017. We found out the results of her mammogram. Two different types of stage 2 cancers and the gene mutation that increases the risk of ovarian cancer. In the past few days there has been a lot of crying, worrying, speculating, guessing, assuming and what ifs. But surprisingly out of all this we have been fortunate to see so many loving and caring people truly trying to help. I have learned a lot about our insurance in the last five days. Our savings are gone, our credit cards will be maxed by the end of the week. I was able to upgrade and change to improve our insurance, but at a cost. I have been sick to my stomach thinking about money, insurance, surgery, at least six weeks recovery, more findings, our rent, business rent, our great employees, Christmas and bills. Nicoles double mastectomy surgery is going to take place on December 12th, December and the holiday season is going to be a tough finacial time for our family and business.

Just when I thought I was at our breaking point, a friend said I should try go fund me. This is a very humbling point in our lives and would like to thank everyone,in advance, for reading this, donating or sharing our story.
