My husband and I adopted our dog Flip just one month ago. We found him through a rescue, and he was the perfect fit for us. Flip was taken from a rough home in Chicago by Animal Control last November. He spent the next seven months growing up in a kennel before being rescued by a wonderful group and placed with two foster families. Almost a year after heading to CACC, Flip found his forever home with us.
Flip developed a limp about a week ago, favoring his right leg. An initial trip to the vet found a large lump of fluid on his right elbow and he was prescribed an anti-inflammatory. Five days later, his limp had not improved, and we had x-rays done on both front legs. He was found to have an ununited anconeal process in his right elbow. Essentially, a piece of bone from his ulna has become detached and is just hanging around in his elbow. This piece of bone can cause damage to the joint. The x-ray of his left elbow showed that a piece of bone is in the process of detaching there as well. The only way to treat this condition is surgery, which will remove the pieces of bone. He will then have a six-week recovery period, but the surgery has a very high success rate, and he should have no further problems with his arms after he is recovered. Flip is a young dog, and loves to run and play, but with his condition, he cannot do either of those things. Only with surgery will he be able to be the puppy that he has not had the chance to be. We have only had him for a month, but we are already completely in love with him. He is incredibly sweet and smart, and he deserves to live a long, happy, healthy life in his forever home.
The estimated cost to repair both elbows is $3600-4000. We are asking for donations to help cover half the cost of the surgery, and we will finance the rest. We love Flip so much, and we want everyone to know what a big heart this sweet boy has. Please consider helping to give Flip the life he deserves!
