Wheelchair parts for Sis Betty

My name is Fatina Malik and I'm raising money for a dear friend of mine, Sister Betty Hasan Amin. She is one of the most beautiful people that I know. We are raising funds to purchase new wheelchair parts for her. This is her story, in her own words:
“I became a wheel chair user 51 years ago, at the age of 17, as a result of a fall that caused a spinal cord injury. This injury occurred on the fourth day of my senior year of high school, eight months after my mother’s death. This was a traumatic time of my life and I spent several years in a rehabilitation center learning to be independent using a wheelchair. In spite of these challenges, I completed a Master’s degree in education administration, got married, had two biological sons, taught school for 17 years and performed Hajj in 1992. Currently, I have developed a line of Islamic special occasion greeting cards, written a book of poetry, authored books for young readers; and also I am a human rights advocate for people with disabilities and an activist in my local community.”
“About 6 weeks ago, a pressure sore developed on my back. I am receiving wound care treatments at a spinal cord specialty center and through a home care wound agency. The pressure sore occurred because I have scoliosis (a curved spinal cord) as a result of my injury and also from the back frame on my wheelchair pressing into my back.”
“The seating clinic at Shepherd Center has recommended a total replacement of the back of my wheelchair and the lateral side supports, which will help with my posture while sitting in my wheelchair. I am on a fixed income and Medicaid will not pay for wheelchair equipment in a timely manner in order to prevent further health problems. Therefore, I am asking the community to help me pay for the wheelchair support equipment, which has been estimated at 4000.00. May Allah bless you for your contributions and please keep me in your prayers.”
