Kathy's Cancer Fight

Donation protected

My dear friend Kathy is a vibrant 65 year-old mom and grandmother. She has three adult sons, three young grandchildren, and has been a caregiver and mother figure to many "“ including me. She has a deep relationship with her faith and remains active in mission work, helping the sick and those in need in Peru. She is incredibly fit and active, and uses her boundless energy "“ as she always has "“ to actively love others.

Kathy is one of the kindest, most giving people I have ever known.

She recently retired from 30+ years as a public health nurse to travel, hike and camp with her husband, Arch. One month ago, the two were camping in Canada when Kathy noticed she was uncharacteristically out of breath. That odd feeling was compounded with odd back pain. Doctors confirmed the unthinkable "“ her left lung was filled with fluid due to a large tumor. There were more hot spots in her clavicle, spine and lymph nodes.

A biopsy of her bones and the lung fluid confirmed that Kathy has Adenocarcinoma, a Stage Four cancer in her lung, bones and brain.

It's going to be a difficult fight, but Kathy is smart and she's a fighter. And more than that, she has an army.

The battle begins with gamma knife brain radiation on Thursday, October 10.

On Sunday, October 13, I'll run the Chicago Marathon. Every mile is dedicated to Kathy. Miles for her healing. Miles for no pain. Miles to guide the hands of her doctors. Miles for peace for her family and those who she has touched over the years.

You're invited to be a part of the army helping to support Kathy in this battle.

With treatment and support, Kathy has a 25% chance of living five years to celebrate more retirement with her husband, to see her grandchildren grow, and to continue to touch the lives of so many. She has the optimism, strength and willpower to do it.

As these things often do, this has happened so quickly, so we need you to contribute your support quickly. Join our army! Thank you in advance from Kathy and all of us who love her.

The funds you contribute will help Kathy to access care and comfort that may not be accessible through health care coverage. The prayers you contribute will provide peace and strength to someone so deserving.
