Sgt. Lunger Memorial Freeway GoFundMe…. Header: Police Sgt. Scott Lunger Memorial Freeway Fund Goal: $10,000.00 Brentwood P.A.L. (Police Activities League) is sponsoring the memorializing of Highway 4 in Contra Costa County from Laurel Road in Oakley to Balfour Road in Brentwood as the Hayward Police Sergeant Scott Paul Lunger Memorial Freeway), authored by Assemblymember Jim Frazier as CA ACR-49. Sgt. Scott Lunger was shot and killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop in a residential neighborhood in Hayward, in the early morning hours of July 22, 2015. Scott was a police officer for the City of Hayward for 15 years, however he lived in the Brentwood area since the 1990’s. Brentwood was where he raised his family, coached softball and shared time with those closest to him. Starting in 2005, Scott had dedicated much of his spring off-duty time to coaching softball. In 2012, he began volunteering as a softball coach for the Varsity Girls Softball team at Freedom High School, in Oakley. He was not only a coach, but a mentor to the Freedom Varsity Softball Team on and off the field. The financial responsibility for this memorial must be privately funded, through an organization connected to law enforcement. Brentwood P.A.L., a 501©3 non-profit organization founded in 1998, was contacted and graciously accepted the role to collect the funds needed to finance this project via GoFundMe. The estimate cost is $10,000.00
