Fiji Mission

Donation protected
As some of you know, this year I'm doing a gap-year program run by Anglican Youthworks, called Year 13. The program includes completing a Diploma of Christian Studies where I will learn more about who God is by studying his Word in more depth, serving in various ministries in my church (Village Church Annandale), as well as working part time as a Dental Assistant.

Excitingly, the program also includes a one-month mission trip to Fiji. Although this is a short-term mission, it has  a much bigger and longer term goal. We will be partnering with local churches, schools and villages to participate in the various ongoing ministries there. These range from feeding the poor and painting buildings to raising up and encouraging Bible-based leadership.

While Fiji is a beautiful place to visit, this is not a holiday to relax on the beach, but is designed to be a life changing and immersive experience of Fijian culture, as part of God's mission to bring people from all over the world, to Christ. We are going as learners, being ready to serve and continue God's mission through the ministries already setup there.

Recently, Fiji has experienced the impacts of Cyclone Josie, which caused major damage to the country and its people. Heavy flooding caused houses and resources to be washed away, and several people were killed. While still affected by floodwaters, Fiji was hit by Cyclone Keni, just this week, which caused more than 2000 people to be evacuated, continual flood damage and loss of resources. This means that as we go on mission in June, we will be encountering a country struggling to recover from the damage of both cyclones and in sore need of the good news of Jesus.

The overall cost for this endeavour is $3000. The funds will be distributed to cover transport, insurance, accommodation, food and other costs involved in the mission. Broken down, this could look like 20 people giving $100, 10 people giving $50 and 25 people giving $20, to total $3000.

Please consider whether you could be one of these people. Please also commit to pray for the Year 13 mission to Fiji, for the country itself and that God might be working powerfully there to save people through faith in Jesus Christ.
