Susan Sneed-Atlas Fire Survivor
Donation protected
I received a text from my mom Sunday at 10:54pm "my side of the valley is on fire, they evacuated us, I'm ok." I immediately jumped out of bed and went to meet up with her. We sat on the side of the road and listened to the radio traffic of people being rescued on Atlas peak by helicopter and the Sheriff department completing evacuations, as we wanted to stay close, and prayed that her house would still be standing after the fire front had passed. Monday afternoon we found out it was gone, childhood memories, cherished belongings, GONE. Life is fragile and can change in an instant, my mom was one of the lucky ones to get out of her house when she was told to leave, unlike the others who perished in the Napa and Sonoma fires. She is still standing, more than we can say for her home, her house was a total loss, nothing left. She had less than 10 minutes to get out of bed, grab what she could and get out once the sheriff department showed up. She opened her blinds to a wall of flames and quickly escaped to safety. For people still in danger please head the warnings and get out, material items can be replaced, you cannot. She is now living with me trying to get her life back together, every little bit helps. Thank you all for your support and generosity!
