Beyond Cancer

Recently it was discovered that 14 year old Elijah has a rare condition of "Neuroendocrine Carcinoma, a cancer that is rare in the elderly and especially rare in children. He went through surgery to remove a small grapefruit sized tumor along with a portion of the small intestine which was being constricted by the tumor. He is recovering well from the surgery, though there still remains a number of smaller tumors in the area around the abdomen which still needs to be treated. Eugene Oregon is home but treatments and visits with the doctor for chemo treatments etc. will be in Portland at the Children's hospital. Getting Elijah to these visits and stays will be months of activity requiring the ability to pay for fuel and food as well as lodging. This will also mean that in order to make this happen there will be chunks of days where work will be missed. Most of Elijah's medical care is covered by insurance but maintaining the finances in life and securing the cost of the Portland trips is where help is needed. Elijah is a freshman in high school and school had only begun when this all came as a blow. He also started playing with his high school soccer team. School and soccer are very important to him. He has two brothers, one 19 and one four. He is a great example of sweet kid and is very generous; a big heart.
