You Don't Bring Me Flowers

I'm Kelly Blanscet, a self-employed designer in Austin, Texas. Being a solo-preneur, being hit with an emergency disease worst-case case scenario. And that's where I am right now.

My downtime from Complicated Diverticulitis
3 weeks at home sick
8 days the in hospital (non-invasive surgery)
2 weeks recovery
1 week relapse
13 more days in the hospital (surgery)
6 weeks recovery

...and I get to go back in 2 months for more. I'll post an update with details.

In lieu of flowers, magazines, or other well-wishing items, I’d like to request funds to get me through my downtime. You know, it’s one of those things you don’t anticipate. You’re going about your life, and BANG, you get hit with a major illness. And it can break you. This is precisely why we need a MAJOR OVERHAUL with healthcare in this country. I’m also afraid I have no next egg to draw from. So I’m completely caught off guard.

DOWNTIME = NO WORK/NO MONEY.
We won’t even go near the hospital bills. I’m just focusing on the immediate future to cover expenses. It’s all I can manage to grasp at the moment anyway.

HOWEVER, I know that everyone is suffering from donation fatigue. With hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and wild fires (sounds like end-of-days, eh?), most of you are probably donated out. And that’s fine. I’m not really actively asking for donations. I just want to sway any spending away from flowers to something more practical.
