48 horses are starving to death

Hi,

My dear friends of 30 years, Craig and Michelle Barker and their kids Shane and Kya, survived hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. They own 48 horses and run a business called Tropical Trail Rides. They sent the kids back to the mainland and as of now are faced with trying to keep the horses from starving. The local producers of grain lost their crops and have no power to process any feed. They currently have three days left. We've sourced a producer on the mainland that can send the grain at $33 a bag including shipping via Carib X planes that are landing at the Aguadilla airport. On a near starvation diet, the 48 horses eat 60 bags of grain a week and drink about 600 gallons of water a day. Thankfully, they have sourced a local water supplies and should be able to continue to keep the horses hydrated. My goal is to provide a 3 month supply (12 weeks) of 720 bags or $23,760. This will keep the horses alive until the local producers get back up to speed. The Barkers have also decided to help their entire communities' horses that may be in trouble as well. While I understand that human life is also at stake on the island, FEMA and many global support agencies (3 billion plus from the US) are bringing in millions of dollars of supplies and manpower. To my knowledge, there are no agencies working on saving the islands animals, specifically these 48 horses that will die of starvation without your help. Please donate a bag ($33)a half a bag ($16) or whatever you can do to help. I'll be sending updates frequently (including more pictures when cell service permits) to let you know how we're progressing.  I will be withdrawing the funds in my name.  It will sit in a seperate account and I will have 100% transparency of every penny spent.  If the island tourism and horse business recover with normality in the next year, and business is back to usual (which is highly unlikely), and there are funds left over, we will survey the donors (via survey monkey) and choose a new equestrian based cause to support.
