Susie's Transplant Fund

Donation protected
Welcome to the liver quest page for Susie.

In December 2006, Susie got the diagnosis of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) which in short blocks the bile ducts and ruins the liver. PSC is rather rare, and when it happens, it's more likely to affect a male. There's a double-whammy right there. Those with PSC have commonly battled Chron's disease or Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Susie, indeed, battled UC for many years prior to the PSC diagnosis until 2007 when it became necessary to remove her colon.

Since PSC diagnosis, Susie has had both good and bad periods. Until she started really showing the outward symptoms (mainly Jaundice) off and on over the past couple of years, it was a hidden illness. One we battled privately, with the help of a select few.

January 2015-During a routine (for her) procedure, she developed sepsis (a nasty blood infection), went into septic shock, and the story nearly ended. Some of you may remember that as the time when she finally went public, and by extension made it so that Brian could narrate the story.

By this time, Susie was already listed for transplant in San Francisco, but given this rare condition, type O blood, and a general lack of donors in California, her chances for transplant proved pretty slim. 2 years ago last April, we traveled to New Orleans (at the request of the San Francisco team) and she was approved and listed for transplant in New Orleans.

It's been 2 years of testing, petitioning for higher placement on "the list," and so forth... and by all accounts, the time is nearly here.
