Help Me Help Ecuador!

I need your help! I’m raising funds to go on a school trip to South America in February. During winter break, I will be participating in a youth leadership and service trip to Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. Over the years, the student participants that have taken this trip have collectively reforested over 1,500 trees and mangroves to restore 110 acres of Ecuador’s tropical ecosystem. During my time in Ecuador, I will not just work with students from my school, but alongside Ecuadorian students to develop their school garden; this trip is more than just service, it is an opportunity for cultural exchange.
Growing up in the area I live makes hunger, pollution, overpopulation, poor air quality, or lack of education seem foreign. There is little to no diversity. Where I live is often viewed as a “bubble” in which the people are protected from many real-world issues.
The experience of working with my classmates as well as students from Ecuador will allow me to escape the barrier between where I live and the real world. Going to a developing country such as Ecuador will open my eyes to how people in other areas of the world live and help me develop a greater appreciation for the things I normally take for granted. As my mom did after college, I want to travel and immerse myself in new cultures. The trip will also help me build on my Spanish skills.
I am very hopeful and grateful for the opportunity. To go I need to raise $3000 dollars to cover the cost of my trip. Your money will help me help Ecuador and allow me to grow as a person. Any amount you choose to donate would be greatly appreciated.
