Ar Vets Med Expenses

This fundraiser is for my brother Richard Thames. He served in the Air Force from 1981-89. He has always been a person who stays by himself. Growing up we didn't know what Aspbergers was- now we know more. On September 21, 2017 at approximately 6:00 am he was walking to the bus stop so he could get to his $10 per hour job. He looked both ways at the cross walk; and crossed the first of three lanes. Then the second. And without knowing what happened he was hit in the third lane by a vehicle traveling approx 35 mph. His right leg hit the bumper shattering it in the tibial plateau; it threw him on to the car hood and crushed his right upper arm and finally his head bounced off the windshield shattering it. It then knocked him back 50+ feet the other way - causing scrapes and bruises all over his body. And his face hit the pavement breaking eye bones on the right side. Never have I seen a body so bruised, broken and scraped. He spent 2+ days in ICU due to a brain bleed; both legs broken and his right arm broken. Multiple CT scans and MRIs over the next few days followed as his body turned blue, green, yellow and purple from all the injuries. He has always believed that the VA would take care of his medical needs - but now that the hospital bills are going to top over $200,000 - not to mention he won't be able to walk for the next 3 months - and has no income while off work he has no insurance to offset these costs. The Hispanic gentleman who hit him only has minimal insurance coverage and Richard will never be able to pay all these bills. Please consider helping this veteran and special man, find a way to pay for the injuries which have robbed him of being able to provide for himself and enjoy life.
