Faith's Nicaragua Nursing Trip 2018

Donation protected
Hello there!
My name is Faith, and I am a 21-year-old junior-level nursing student at Norwich University, in Northfield Vermont.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to help people. When I was 18, I became a Licensed Nursing Assistant, and when I realized my love for the medical field, began the journey of nursing school. I found that nursing is an avenue for me to express compassion and care for individuals on so many levels, and look forward to a career doing just that. I like to think of myself as a more globally minded person, and since I was a young child, have had a strong desire to go on a trip in which I could make a difference in the life of individuals in other countries as well. As time has been passing, I didn't know if or when the opportunity would arise, and I figured it wouldnt be until years down the road.

I recently attended a meeting at Norwich University, in which I learned of a trip taking place through Corner of Love, an organization based in the United States. I learned details of the trip, a bit about what to expect, and cost. While the numbers seem daunting, and the experience, brand new, I walked away with the overwhelming feeling that this is a great opportunity that would enable me to show compassionate nursing care to those in need. It is with that in mind that I have decided to go.

Thus, in March of 2018 I will be going to Nicaragua for ten days with a group of fellow students and instructors from Norwich University, for a medical trip. We will be part of a team that will carry out four medical/dental clinics in rural communities, where families live in severe poverty and lack basic needs, such as clothing, water, and medicine. Our work there will include packing up supplies, loading them onto buses, and going out to set up clinics with medical stations to provide for their medical needs, as well as stations for food, clothing and other basic supplies. As I prepare for the trip, there are two things that I could use your help with.
1.) I could use monetary donations. This is a self-funded trip, which makes the financial aspect, currently the most complicated part. While it is still early in the process, the approximate cost as of now is just under $2,000, not including the plane ticket. I have $300 of my own money that I am putting towards the trip now, and will be trying to work as much extra as I can to save money between now and then. I will try and outline the expenses as clearly as I can below, and if anything changes, I will update as necessary

Application fee: $100 payable at time of application
Trip fee: $1250 payable in the U.S. prior to leaving
Quinta fee: $100 payable in Nicaragua while there
Arrival fee: $10 payable on entrance to Nicaragua
$90 – $120 recommended spending money for two set dinners out
Plane Ticket: unknown amount at this time

2.) I also have a need for supplies to bring over with me. Over the course of the next several months, I am looking for any donations that anyone might have, to fill up two fifty-pound duffle bags. It is a requirement of the program that each participant bring over 100 pounds of supplies. If anyone is interested in helping with this, feel free to reach out to me, and we can set something up. Thank you in avance to anyone who contributes to this cause. It truly means the world to me.

All the best,

~Faith Lloyd
