Stella Mia Giacalone Medical Bills

Rebecca and Sam Giacalone were expecting to have a wonderful baby girl in November 2017.
On September 15, Rebecca developed severe complications of preeclampsia. She was admitted to the hospital in Anchorage to monitor and manage the condition. Things were tense as her symptoms progressed until it resulted in an emergency cesarean section birth for their beautiful daughter Stella Mia Giacalone at 11:14 PM on September 19th. This was nearly two months early.
Stella was only 15.5 inches long and weighed 2lbs 14.2ozs.
So far Stella has been healthy and doing well, but since she was born so early, she will likely stay in the NICU until she has grown enough to be able to survive on her own which could be up to two months at an average cost of $86,000 a week. Additionally, Rebecca spent an additional 6 days in the hospital recovering from complications with the preeclampsia and subsequent cesarean section.
Sam has had to take off additional work to be a full time parent for their other two children and help support Rebecca in her recovery efforts. This has put an even greater strain on finances as he now has to use leave without pay.
Sam and Rebecca work hard to support their family of now three children. In addition, both volunteer much of their free time giving back so much to the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, and a variety of other community organizations ranging from healthcare and youth development.
Unfortunately the combination of the timing of insurance payments, the tight budget and unplanned pregnancy complications are putting this family in an even more stressful financial situation when this time needs to be used to focus on recovery for everyone and bonding with Stella.
