Outdoor Classroom for Eagle project

Hello, my name is Andrew Cunningham, and I am a former student of Wilson Elementary School. I have decided to come back here to do my Eagle Scout project, which is building an outdoor classroom for the students and staff of the school.

An outdoor classroom will:

bring learning alive by integrating nature into schoolwork;
foster appreciation of the outdoors; 
improve the learning experience by heightening the mood of students and teachers;
increase retention of subject material by incorporating physical activity into the curriculum;
be a fun gathering place for teachers and students.

The best part about an outdoor classroom is that its versatility allows it to be used for anything. I am very excited to follow through with this project because I was unable to experience the outdoor classroom environment until middle school. I believe that this is an environment that gives its greatest impression when you are younger. It will serve as a useful addition to Wilson School’s current curriculum to excite the children about learning and teach them that there are more ways to learn than sitting at a desk reading a book.

The classroom will  consist of four rectangular benches built out of pressure treated wood with supports built up with layers of wood in a pinwheel brick pattern. The benches will be arranged into a diamond pattern with an eight foot by eight foot patio in the middle and four wooden planters built up with the same pattern used for the benches.

Thanks to generous monetary and product donations from Ace Hardware, Bagel Chateau, Bartell’s, Home Depot, King’s, Westfield lumber, and William’s Nursery, I am well on my way to getting the money that I need to execute this project. However, I still need a little financial help with my project. I greatly appreciate any help you can give.
