Help For Nikki & Jim After Maria

As you're aware, a historically strong hurricane made a direct hit on Puerto Rico last week. The entire population is still without power and engineers say it could take months to be restored.
On the island of Vieques, where Nikki and Jim live, there is also NO WATER.
Shipments of food, water and generators are starting to arrive at the main port in San Juan, which has reopened, but nothing has reached Vieques yet, and as a result of low-to-non existent supplies of food, water, fuel, medical supplies and other basic necessities, the island now being evacuated. It damaged telephone masts across the island; reaching the outside world is only possible with the use of a satellite phone.
Our friends were visiting family in the states when the storm hit, but their three cats and all their possessions were left in an evacuation zone. While their pet-sitter has been marked as 'safe', they have still had no communication with him. They do not know if their pets are healthy or if their house survived, and are justifiably worried sick.
They are awaiting the closest opportunity to safely return. Once there, they will most likely need to immediately evacuate their cats and themselves. It will be logistically difficult as well as financially draining.
The situation is not good, but we can try to help make it easier. They would never ask for help like this, but they definitely need assistance beyond what they're currently capable of. Being suddenly unemployed and, for the moment, without a home is devastating enough without the added stress of trying to rescue your own pets. Please help them if you can, and share this campaign if you can't.
**for clarification purposes: I am a close friend of both Nikki and Jim, and will be reponsible for withdrawing raised funds and sending everything to them via bank transfer at the appropriate time (I do not yet know when that will be; possibly looking like midweek). I live in the states and this seems to be the easiest way to handle the withdrawl process. Thank you!**
