The Jensen's during Kayden's Cancer Treatment

On Wednesday, November 23rd, Kayden, oldest son of Kristina and Aaron Jensen was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Kayden (6) developed cold like symptoms in September. He was later treated for a sinus infection. After treatment of his sinus infection, a pediatrician believed his tonsils and adenoids were swollen and may need to be removed. Kayden was scheduled to see ENT the first week in December.

Due to rapidly progressing symptoms, Kristina and Aaron advocated for him to be seen sooner. A same day appointment was arranged. ENT doctors discovered a growth in Kayden's sinus cavity. He was admitted to Gundersen Hospital on 11/23. A CT scan and biopsy of the growth was preformed. Kayden was started on IV antibiotics. Doctors at Gundersen believed the growth to be cancer.

Gundersen doctors consulted with University of Madison and Mayo Hospital in Rochester. All 3 teams decided Mayo was the best place for Kayden to recieve treatment as they offered the special radiation he needs.

On 11/23 Aaron, Kristina and Kayden traveled to Mayo Rochester, where Kayden was admitted. On 11/24 he recieved and MRI to better see the parameters of the tumor. On 11/25 Kayden underwent 5 procedures, including long term IV port placed for chemotherapy. He was diagnosed with a rare, but rapidly progressing cancer rhabdomyosarcoma.

The plan for Kayden right now is 40+ weeks of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of daily radiation with the probability of more surgical procedures.

While receiving the 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy, Kayden and his family will need to stay in Rochester.

Kayden started IV chemotherapy tonight. His parents, Aaron and Kristina, are staying at Mayo with him. It is unknown how long they will be there.
