Emergency Medical Expenses

On May 22, 2017 Jake and Nicole Krol were working late at their new company, a custom chrome plating shop out of Muskegon, Michigan. They were in the process of setting up a larger strip tank for removing the old chrome and nickel off from classic parts. An accident occurred that night.

Sulphuric acid sprayed the two. Jake had half of his face, neck, half of his chest, and almost his entire left arm covered in burns. Nicole had spots on her face, neck, chest, right arm, both legs, and the tops of her feet covered in burns.

Nobody was at the shop when this accident occurred. While in severe pain Jake had to find a phone and call 911. They both were first rushed and had initial treatments at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, but after initial treatments were ambulanced over to Spectrum’s Burn Unit out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The following 3 ½ weeks they began recovering. They had skin graphing done during this process. After the 3 ½ weeks they were discharged and put under the care of Jake’s parents.

Because of the accident neither are currently able to drive and all medical appointments, counseling sessions, and therapy sessions are made by the constant servitude of Nicole’s mother, Joy Proctor.

This traumatic ordeal has caused severe post-traumatic stress for Nicole and mild post-traumatic stress for Jake. Nicole is receiving assistance for hers; whereas, Jake is able to work through his on his own.

Bryan Proctor, Nicole’s father, is spending as much time keeping the company afloat as it is short-handed two key personal. They have dropped the take home pay check per week to help provide more funds for the shop to carry it through this ordeal, which puts even more financial strain on their personal budget.

It is now pushing August and both still are not sure when they will be able to move home or be able to go back to work. Their difficulty is that they are new business owners and did not qualify for any good insurance in past years. Because of this situation they are responsible to pay over $200,000 in medical bills currently and more bills keep coming in.

Jake has contracted MRSA three times since leaving the hospital. He has been hospitalized for two additional days because of an allergic reaction to one of his medications. This has been slowing down his natural healing process from the injuries. Currently, he is not even guaranteed 100% usability of his arm once fully healed. He is left handed and this is a concern for them.

Jake and Nicole are asking for prayer and even some financial support through this hard time. They are both uneasy going back to where they were injured but have three other families to worry about besides themselves and have vowed, at least, one of them would be going back to work no matter what once able. They love their employees and other business owners that depend on their company for income and do not want to risk losing their company because of these bills, which would then effect the livelihood of these people too.
