Thursday evening Michael fell in his home causing a brain bleed.  He was taken to Covenant Hospital for emergency craniotomy surgery.  The procedure entailed removing a part of his skull on the right side in hopes to relieve pressure from his brain.  The surgery lasted about 2 hours and Dr Singla was confident the surgery would allow the pressure to disapate.  The section of his skull will possibly not be replaced for 6-8 weeks, so 2 drainage tubes can allow excess blood to drain.  It is uncertain how long he will remain in the ICU but we were told 5-7 days.  The first 24 hours following surgery he was heavily sedated to control the swelling and discomfort. After hours of monitoring and another CT scan, Dr Singla gave us hope that as long as Michael could follow commands the breathing tube would be removed and sedation stopped. Allowing him to slowly wake up.  This morning (Saturday the 2nd) they stopped the sedation to check if he was able to follow commands.  Praise the lord, he opened his eyes and was responding to most commands.  It was a wonderful thing to see him open his eyes and look at us.  Dr Singla said that the breathing tube will be removed today!  Another CT scan will happen today, we were told it won't show much change from yesterday which is a good thing.  Slow and steady is the pass. The amount of support Michael has received has been amazing. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and appreciate all the love and support. At this time we really want to focus on his recovery and are requesting no visitors until he's out of the ICU.   Please keep Michael in your prayers.
