Stuart Dowling is a wonderful guy who lives life with great
enthusiasm. His life's journey has taken
him through many wonderful and challenging experiences. He and his wife Juli have an awesome family
with 3 children, whose ages range from 4 to 11 years. Stuart is hardworking, entrepreneurial and
has high standards and it shows in the pride he takes with the work he does through
his painting business, which is the family's sole source of income.
After an initial diagnosis of Stage 2/3 colorectal cancer in May 2011, Stuart underwent radiation therapy followed by surgery to remove the tumor in October. At that time, cancer cells were found in the lymph nodes & the diagnosis was changed to Stage 4. Six rounds of chemotherapy followed; however, in November, 2012, metastasis to the liver was discovered. Six more rounds of chemo followed by liver resection surgery was done ending this March. Follow up chemo was finally begun this week after previously being discontinued due to complications
Although results on the most recent scan were not encouraging, Stuart & Juli haven't given up & would like to start therapy at Block Integrative Cancer Treatment Center in Illinois. This Center uses traditional treatment given in coordination with biological rhythms to maximize effectiveness and minimize side effects. They are going there in October for an initial consult and hope to begin treatment there shortly after, as long as they can pay out of pocket since their insurance won't provide coverage.
Stuart is now in the fight for his life and we are asking for your help. He and Juli have been so strong and so positive through all of this. So strong in fact, that the day after Stuart was discharged from the hospital after being admitted due to complications, he went right to work to try to finish an urgent project on their house. Even when he only has a little bit of energy, he devotes 100% of himself to do whatever he can to continue to provide for his family. It's time for him to focus on trying to get better and he will with all our support.
Funds raised will go toward expenses for the consult, travel and treatments and to help pay some of the mounting debt they have incurred as Stuart's health has limited the income from his business.
