Daniel's Flight To Recovery
Donation protected
Daniel Skousen, 25, was a passenger in a UPS transport van that was t-boned by a fuel truck at Denver International Airport on August 15, 2017. Dan suffered a traumatic brain injury and had a craniectomy to relieve the swelling in his brain. He is currently in a medically induced coma to treat the brain injury. He suffered a temporal, Rt. orbital, mandible, and rib fractures. He has multiple lacerations across his face, the most severe from the Rt. orbit, to his ear, and ending at the bottom of his chin. Doctors expect him to have at least three more surgeries to reconstruct the orbit of his eye, plastic surgery to repair the lacerations on his face, and surgery to reattach his skull on the right side of his head.
His stay at the hospital will last for an unforeseen amount of time. It will be a long road to full recovery consisting of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and additional surgery. Dan’s medical care will be enormous.
Dan’s lifelong dream has been to become a pilot. Prior to the accident, he was preparing to enter his final semester at Metro State University of Denver, where he has been studying mechanical engineering with an emphasis on aviation.
