Friend's Ex is not giving son back -help

I am doing this to help out a friend who would like to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of this matter. She is a single mom living on Long Island with her young school aged son. Her ex lives in Texas and she has always allowed him visitation any time school is not in session, even paying for half of the cost of flights despite him not paying her child support. She has always encouraged him to have a relationship with their child.
She sent her son to be with his father for the summer and when it was time for him to return for school her ex informed her that he would not be sending him back. He has since filed for custody in Texas and enrolled him in school there. They are not divorced yet and do not have a custody order in place so this is getting messy. She has applied for emergency custody in NY and was granted that but still has to go to Texas to appear before a judge there in order to get her son back. Her court date in NY for permanent custody is not until the end of September.
She works full-time but is supporting herself and her son on a small income and cannot afford the fees associated with flying to Texas, staying in a hotel and retaining a lawyer to help her. The lawyer alone is requiring a $1,000 retainer to appear in court with her and the last minute flight will be expensive.
This is all going to transpire over the next week so I am hoping together we can help her out. Even a few dollars will go a long way if a lot of us come together to get her back her son.
I have known this woman for years and I know that she is a wonderful person and mother. Her son is her world. She has always encouraged his relationship with his father and has been completely blindsided by this. She has always scraped up the money to pay for his flight to Texas to see his dad, sacrificing her own needs in order to do so. Again, this is in spite of the fact that he has not paid child support.
I would greatly appreciate it if you can help in any way, no matter how small. Please share this with anyone you can as well.
Those of you who know me know this is not something I would do without fully believing in it.
