Hi everyone, this is Mandy. First and foremost, I want to thank those of you who have offered your love and support to all of us, both in your comments on this website and to our whole family in a million different ways. It is incredibly moving to witness a whole tribe come out to support our family.

I’ve had a few people ask me what else they can do to help, which is always tough to answer. First of all, I think we all share a familiar, maddening frustration that we just can’t jump in and fix this. Or is that just a feeling amongst those of us with control-freak tendencies?? I digress. :)

So, I’ve been brainstorming potential ideas for the next time I get hit with that “how can I help?” question. The truth is, even the classic gestures -- like bringing food or flowers -- won’t really be a good option for my dad because he is going to be very restricted about germs/bacteria, etc., so contributions like that won’t be allowed. Here are the ideas I’ve come up with thus far:

1. Manitowoc House Care. It would be really helpful if my mom could get some help with things like raking, lawn-mowing , etc. For things like that, we might put out an organized website down the road, but for now, if you’re interested in helping with things like that, you can just email me at [email redacted].

2. Housing Costs. Another idea is to help pitch in with some of the housing costs associated with them having to live away from their home and stay close to Froedtert for these months. Unfortunately, staying with Kathy or Kelley isn’t an option because they can’t stay at a place where kids live (back to that germ/bacteria problem again). Although their insurance covers some costs, they’ll still be facing others themselves. If pitching in toward these costs is something of interest for any of you, I thought I’d make it a little easier by setting this site up.

Truth be told, though, I think I can speak for the whole family when I say the greatest help is to continue sending your love, support, and prayers. This is going to be a crazy and challenging ride, but knowing we have all of you to hold us up goes an awfully long way. We love you all so much and feel so fortunate to have you behind us. Thank you.
