Help Us Save Appa!

Donation protected
Appa is a 3 year old Great Pyrenees that was surrendered to Emergency Veterinary Hospital if Ann Arbor after a diagnosis of a pneumothorax. A pneumothorax is in simpler terms when air escapes the lung and leaks into the chest cavity around the lunds. As that air builds pressure it has no where to escape so it presses on the lungs and heart causing respiratory distress and death. He has undergone treatment with placement of bilateral chest tubes and pluralvac suction where we hoped by removing the escaped air and keeping negative pressure on the lungs Appa would seal the tear or defect in his lung. This treatment has been helpful but he has not been curative. He requires an invasive surgery where his effected lung is removed. Our hospital does not have the specialized equipment to perform this life saving surgery. Appa is a sweet boy and has stolen our hearts. He greets our clients with a warm tail wag and sometimes a nudge if their hand asking for a pet. When he is uncomfortable or afraid he crawls into our lap and all he wants is someone to pet his head. When he hears the door bell ring he has to tell us someone is here with a few quiet woofs. He worries about the patients around him and is always checking in with them to make sure they are ok. We want so much to be able to do the same for him. The cost of his surgery at a specialist is $5000.
